Br Haavar's graduation in Oxford
Fr Haavar Simon Nilsen OP is a Norwegian Dominican who was ordained priest in Oslo fifteen months ago, having begun his formation in France and completed a Master's in Theology at Oxford University. So, for two years, Fr Haavar was a student brother at Blackfriars, Oxford, and a member of the Godzdogz Team; in his second year, he also served in the role of deacon. Godzdogz caught up with him to find out how he has found the first year of his priestly ministry, in a country that offers many opportunities for Christian witness and evangelisation.

Dominican Youth Movement – National Launch, 2-3 November

Saturday, October 12, 2013
The friars are launching the Dominican Youth Movement, which is aimed at young people aged 18-35. Our hope is to support Catholic youth and help them to form networks from the time they are in university chaplaincies until their young professional/married lives. We hope to extend the chaplaincy experience and support network, keeping young people within the Dominican family, and offering opportunities in local areas and at larger regional and national gatherings for young Catholics to meet for prayer, study of the faith, recreation and discussions with friars so as to enable an on-going faith development. Read more

General Chapter 2013: Trogir

Saturday, July 13, 2013
The General Chapter, the highest authority in the Order of Preachers, will be gathering on 22 July at Trogir in Croatia. After Rome 2010, which elected Fr Bruno Cadoré OP as Master of the Order and 86th successor to St Dominic, this General Chapter will be much smaller. It will consist of delegates (called 'diffinitors' if sent by a Province) from all over the world, but not the Priors Provincial. Perhaps one of the most important discussions this year will be to review the rationalisation of the Vicariates, which was mandated by the 2010 General Chapter to simplify the entities within the Order. Our Oxford community will be sending a few brothers to this Chapter, including a Moderator, a Diffinitor and a former Master of the Order. Read more
